View Thread : Design the Semnat Studios logo contest!
OB1
Alright I think we're gonna go with that name, so all we need is a cool (and funny) logo. Myself and my friend Robert will choose the best logo, and whoever wins gets.... *drum roll* .... their name in the credits in all of our future games (unless we change the logo sometime in the future)!!!! WOOO!!!!
...
Yeah okay so that's not such a great prize, but you know... when we make it big and I get a chance to work with Miyamoto, I'll try my best to get you to meet him! :D

Here's my first one:
OB1
Haha, that's hilarious. I think I need a smaller logo though...

And the text is hard to read.
Great Rumbler
Alright I'll make a smaller one with easier to read text.
Great Rumbler
How about this one:
OB1
Still too big. Well, too square.
Great Rumbler
Alright this one should do it:
OB1
That looks good, but I have some bad news.
According to my lawyers (and by lawyers I mean some people who've seen too much Law & Order), it probably isn't a good idea to ask for logos here, just in case we actually do make it big one day and one of yous decides to sue us or something.
Ryan
Hate to break it to you, but you got your company's name the same way, and therefore you could end up in a similar legal battle, logo or no.
Ryan
However, since you are openly asking for a name and logo, any given to you are given freely. All you need is a little legal disclaimer to the effect of "Any and all ideas submitted become the intellectual property of Semnat Studios LTD" and that will give you the de facto license to use whichever you please without fear.
Great Rumbler
And in case you worried about legal entaglements from the background pic in the logo I made, I made that pic myself...so just as long as you slip some green my way there won't be a problem. :D

I considered that, but I came up with the name Semnat. It was going to be Semnat System or Semnat Interactive. EM just suggested the Studios part.

You sure about that?

Really, you created the 3D models from scratch? That's pretty cool!
Dark Jaguar
Company logo? Dilbert's got that covered! Simply put, find random shapes you accidently make! For instance, I call this round circle here my "brown coffee stain of quality".
Laser Link
I got a cool little S logo that I've been trying to find a way to use for a long time. But I can never think of good S names, so I'll give it to you, my neighbor to the north. If I can find it. And if you care. :)
Also, I was wondering if you have the skills to make any nice 3D models in .3ds or .obj format. And if so, if I could use one for a game I'm doing for school. It's sort of an F-Zero type thing, and I've been looking for free models that will fit, but haven't had much luck. If you happen to have anything like that lying around, would you be interested in letting me use it for this project? Low-poly-but-still-not-ugly would be the best, as some of these models are in the several hundred thousand poly range. Thank ye.
Wow, looks like GR has TEH SKILLS too. *smiles sweetly*
OB1
Hey that'd be awesome, as long as what Weltall said is true.
When is that project done? Are you looking for modeled and textured models? Also I only have the learning versions of 3dsm and Maya (well... *cough*... that's my story and I'm sticking to it), but there's this pretty nice open source modeling program that I'm going to start learning how to use pretty soon, although I'm not sure if you'll be able to use it with your game.
Great Rumbler
As much as I would like to take full and all credit for that cool 3D image, all the models in that came pre-made with CorelDream 3D. *has no real 3D skills* :weird:
CorelDream 3D = 3D for Dummies.
OB1
You should d/l gmax and Maya learning edition. Great tutorials included with them.
Great Rumbler
I'll ask my brother to download it for me.

I had the 3ds max trial version, but it expired. :( And it still won't work after I did a complete reformat. I even destructively changed the partitioning of my hard drive. I guess I'll have to actually wipe the hard drive clean of all data next time.
It's definitely a smart a little trial-ma-version. :what:
Ryan
One thing I forgot to mention is that anything posted here without a specific copyright falls under Tendo City's umbrella copyright printed at the bottom of the page. So technically, Semnat is Tendo City's copyright until you file for it. And since I'm the owner and proprietor, that makes it MINE.
:D
(In all seriousness, I would never be so petty as to use that in a copyright battle, but if I did, I would have some standing (by some I mean like practically none). It's a good thing I'm a nice, scrupulous guy!)
Great Rumbler
This is just like an episode of Ally McBeal!!
...
Except different.

I'd shy away from some sort of "extreeeme" logo, unless you ONLY want 18-34 year old males to buy your stuff. That's why I MUCH prefer the general design of Japanese hardware logos to US ones. I mean, my video card is great, but WHY did they think they needed to put some metallic Cerberus on the box? Don't they know the kind of thing everyone outside that demographic thinks when they see something that cheesy? Even in that demographic there's a chunk who find that insults their intelligence. Now, put KITTENS AND FLOWERS on the box, playing poker or something, and you have something that speaks to EVERYONE!
Oh yeah, and both of your legal thingies are pretty much void anyway :D. Weltall, you could get in trouble due to Vash and other copyrighted stuff being claimed by you as your own just because they were posted here. OB1, well, you could get in trouble because signatures and avatars in response to your post could be taken the same way. Won't happen, because no company on earth is such a jerk, and also because it wouldn't go anywhere, but it would be reason enough to make it so you couldn't claim ownership of anything else here either.
Also, I can't copyright my Zelda comic or sell it for money for some very obvious reasons. But.. chance the names and use unique sprites.... :D
This is the sort of things you learn when you read an old book from an old inventor in the family over copyright law... Dangit, we'd be rich if HIS automatic transmission design had been the one to take off! So what if it involved slave monkeys?!
Ryan

Aha, but note that I said that my copyright notice excludes anything with a prevous copyright. Vash is copyrighted. As would be any screenshots of games, names of football teams, or titles of songs. Anything that ISN'T copyrighted automatically IS, thanks to the umbrella text at the bottom of the page (obviously, it's there to have a legal attack point for anyone who is interested in stealing stuff that really IS my copyright).
Semnat also appears to be a word in the Romanian language, but I can't figure out what the hell it means.
The Dragon logo design is based off of a little sketch I did of the same idea... A logo. It was a bit more sinister than this one though, and while the shape of the dragon was serpentine like this, it was in reverse position and thus, it did not represent a letter. But I saw this in my head the minute he asked for a design.
N-Man
wtf romania
At a glance, semnat appears to be the past tense of the verb "to sign" (a semna). Eu am semnat, for example, would mean something like I have signed.
Ryan
That makes sense, for the first place I saw Semnat used was on a message board in place of where, in english, it likely would have said "Posted On: 9/14/91" Signed, posted, written... If my brain were working I'd have figured that out. :)
Dark Jaguar
Will it grant wishes, or raze villages?
Hmm, that text down there doesn't really seem to specify that...
Tendo City. All Rights Reserved. This site is not endorsed or affiliated in any way with most anyone, least of all Nintendo.
Reproduction of any material, in part or in whole, is strictly prohibited. We mean it!
Doesn't seem to specify that... Oh well, legal statements made by anyone but a lawyer tend not to be very applicable far too often... Too easy to find loopholes, for instance, ones I didn't notice, or ones I thought I noticed but weren't loopholes and it turns out something else was. Better get a lawyer, and by that I don't mean pay for one, no, that would involve money. Nay, thou must find and befriend a lawyer, and about a month later, bring up this page and their suggestion.
Ryan
It's not expressed, it's implied, because you simply can't re-copyright something already copyrighted. It means that everything on this page that isn't copyrighted by someone, is copyrighted by me. It means that while the images posted on the page, and the coding of the forum are NOT mine, the text of the posts are.
Thus, Semnat is technically my copyright. :)
Dark Jaguar
Except it was already a word beforehand, plus it's gotta be more explicit, like the copyrights at 8-bit Theater and Bob&George.

OB1- The project is something I'm working on all semester, but I'm supposed to have a modeled vehicle integrated in by the mid term demo, which is around the middle of March. But I can let that slip if I have to, or find another model. I found some nice sites that have tons of free models to download, so I'm going to be checking those out more today. I only know how to import .3ds and .obj files into OpenGL right now, and I have no idea what modeling programs save to what formats. Sorry. This the first time I've ever done anything that involves more than a hundred or so (handcoded *shudder*) polys, so I'm still new to all this.
If you wanted to make something, that would be awesome and I sure wouldn't say no, but I was really just wondering if you guys had anything you made before lying around. Textured models would be especially nice, but not necessary, since I don't know if I will get around to texture mapping the rest of the game before it's due. :) I'm really looking for something along the lines of F-Zero X. In fact, the whole game will have the style of a N64 game.
And it looks like I don't have that 'S' logo anymore. :(

After searching I found a Romanian-English dictionary. It is indeed 'to sign'.
You get this when you search for 'semnat'.

Ah, March? I'm so swamped with work, school, and my game right now that I don't think I'd be able to do it that soon. :( Sorry, but I'd be happy to help you with any future projects.

Yeah well it was new to me when I came up with it. I'm sure "califat" is also a word in some language as well. :D
Weltall, that's a really cool logo, but like DJ is thinking I want something a little more simple.
Ryan
Fine. I can do simple too.
OB1
Hey that's pretty cool. I'll ask my friend if he still thinks it's unsafe to ask around for logos.
A Black Falcon
Caliph is a word...
Laser Link
Yeah, that's what I figured OB1. No problem. Maybe some other time. I plan on working on this for a while, long after I finish school. So I might bug you again in the summer.
OB1
Cool, I'll look forward to it.
Great Rumbler
Califatious califats.
Dark Jaguar
Ya know, that cool dragon logo WOULD look great on a game about dragons come to think of it. It would be about dragons dragoning it up in dragon land, with dragons! .... DRAGON!
