::monks singing:: HALOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HALOOOOOOOO MOST OVERRATED GAME OF THIS GENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ::monks singing::

The most fun game this generation and so far the best looking that has been released, next to Metroid Prime of course. Incredible freakin incredible... PRAISE BUNGIE.

Dark Jaguar
....

Did you honestly think ANYONE would actually think you think this? Did you really think this wasn't such an obvious attempt to make people angry? Do you think anyone is going to be doing exactly what you want, which is simply to get angry at you by saying Halo isn't the best game ever? Of course we won't even bother to say anything regarding best game ever or whatever, because you don't even think Halo is the best game ever. You only think this is the best way to get people angry. Sheesh, it's such an obvious ploy too. Seriously, why do you say something like this? It's not your actual opinion. The only reason you WOULD say this is to get people upset at you. Is that all you can do for amusement? Are you so afraid of trying to be friends, so afraid that if you tried you would fail and be disliked, that you convince yourself that making people angry is fun, and purposly sabotage your relationships by instead trying to get everyone angry? Is that what you want?

Oh, what I mean to say is:

:troll: :troll: :troll:

MgL
Can you read? I said Halo is the best game this gen.

Dark Jaguar
Haha, I heard ya. You seem to be thinking that somehow by repeating your flame bait we will actually believe you. It's just too obvious you are trying to get people angry here.

OB1
That doesn't get me angry. Halo is the most overrated game ever made, simple as that. And if he likes it, more power to him!

EdenMaster
Instead of getting mad at him, I choose to get him mad at me by editing his post and removing his stupid music, it'll be funnier that way :D.

That was for the "How a GameCube is really used" image.

Oh, and this is for you.

:spam:

Dark Jaguar
Yeah good point, but don't buy that he actually thinks this.

Sacred Jellybean
:troll:

^ How in God's name is this supposed to depict a troll??? Looks more like some kind of poor-polygonnal-rendered cyber-genetic cyborg with primitive spears and trendy brown cordouroy(sp) pants! (talk about 2 polar opposites)

A Black Falcon
Its a Troll Headhunter, you poor Warcraft III-illiterate... :)

They are trolls. They throw spears. Just like trolls with their flamebait posts...

Oh, another:troll: for MgL. Why don't you just leave and go to an X-Box board or something... liking Halo most, I can understand... but you don't make a constructive post which defends your case in a forum like this where you know people will say "Metroid Prime!". Thus, is annoying trolling.

Dark Jaguar
You poor poor Warcraft-less fool. Maybe the detail at that distance isn't enough. Okay, here's an up close shot!

http://www.battle.net/war3/images/orc/units/portraits/headhunter.gif

If you can't see the troll in that, you haven't crossed enough bridges in your life!

Most overrated game in history is a vast exaggeration. The game itself was incredibly good, though, only because of it's brilliant co-operative play. But even then, the levels designs majorly hampers the fun. Many times (in between moments of brilliance) my friend and I would just be sitting there going "This level should have ended about 20 minutes ago......".

i-Link multiplay is also a lot of fun.

Best game this gen = Final Fantasy X

:)

BTW, why post a pic of Halo 2 in a thread about Halo?

Halo's graphics are also no where near the best this generation. Still relatively pretty, though. Particularly considering the amount of characters on screen.

MgL
First off, I do feel strongly about this. It was a toss up between MGS2 and Halo. The game is just so freakin incredible. You know what btw? I was going to do a Metroid Prime appreciation thread with it's own Metroid Prime midi, but I don't think you guys are worthy of it. If I said Prime rocked, you guys would disagree. :o

Dark Jaguar
At this point in time, I'd say it's something between Warcraft 3, Metroid Prime, and Kingdom Hearts. Now some might say Kingdom Hearts wasn't that fun for whatever reason, but that's one of the few games in recent years that got me so obsessed that I had to play it non-stop for a week. In fact, I can safely say that the whole time I played the game never once was I not having fun. A similar sentiment can be held for the other two games.

OB1
Halo is good the first half of the game. And the multiplayer is fun.

But the Maw was the best level. And that is CLEARLY in the second half of the game.

Unless my version has a strange glitch.

OB1
You have a glitch in your head!

Boo yah!

A Black Falcon
As for best game of this generation... well, Warcraft III, of course. On consoles though? I'm really not sure... I can't really say when I haven't played most of the games in question (didn't finish MGS2, never played Halo in single player mode, never played Kingdom Hearts... I'm not even that far in Metroid Prime and I own that game...)... but Metroid is a pretty good candidate. MGS2? Good game... but, IMO, not best game... fun but not as good as the best Nintendo games. And Halo's a FPS... not exactly my favorite genre. So it probably is Metroid Prime.

Unless I decide I liked Eternal Darkness more... probably not, but (IMO) that's the second best at least... maybe best, I don't know. Maybe I will sometime later this year when I'm a lot farther in Metroid...

Dark Jaguar
I just beat Star Fox Adventures. To me, it feels like when Rare heard that they got sold to MS, they said "okay, let's just package this up" and quit the project.

Don't get me wrong, I did have a lot of fun with that game, but it feels like an unfinished product, especially when you near the end. I mean, one of the spell stones doesn't even have a boss guarding it. Near the end, during the battle with General Scales

Or should I say, the LACK of a battle with General Scales! That was SO annoying! A battle would have fit in there PERFECTLY with NO change to the dialog! I mean, you would have a huge battle against the supposed final boss of the game, and when you finally finish, Scales backs off, then makes a last desperate lunge, and suddenly THEN the "Krazoa God" Andross tells him he has no use for him any more, and then the rest. I also want to know the details of how Andross became the 6th Krazoa Spirit, or if he just spritually wormed himself into the 6th spirit, or if all the spirits were just parts of Andross. If that's the case, why did they put the planet back together? NAh, wouldn't be that... Anyway, the biggest "lacking" in the whole game is NOT fighting General Scales, though the boss battle against Andross WAS really cool and great fun.

There's so much they could have added, and I can just FEEL it. I mean...

They COULD have set it up so that when you got each spell stone, that part of the planet returned THEN, so that it would change the layout of both that part and main Dinosaur Planet, opening up all sorts of new places to explore as you went along. They also really should have added a boss for the 2nd stone.

Among other things, it was annoying that all the item based puzzles solved themselves. I mean, in Zelda you have to guess what to use and where to use it. In this game, HUGE FRICKIN ICONS glow over exactly where you need to use it, and it automatically rotates to the menu where that item is. That's not to say other puzzles in the game weren't medium to hard difficulty, because some of them were pretty nicely inspired. IT's just that they really should have imitated Zelda even more closely and forced us to figure out where to use all the items ourselves with a Zelda-like menu and no glowing icons hovering over stuff (for that matter, the bombs shouldn't have been limited, but rather usable pretty much anywhere except maybe "life distortion fields" that would prevent them from growing into bombs forcing you to do the drag and drop barrel blasting).

All in all, many areas could have been expanded and had more puzzles, the item based puzzles could have actually been made less walk-you-by-the-hand, the lack of two boss battles (one lacking being VERY annoying), and a sense of the game kinda falling apart near the end kinda bummed out the experience. One really annoying thing is that once you get past a certain point, you can't go back to the rest of the game. One thing about Zelda style games I love is being able to go ANYWHERE from even the last savable point in the game to collect ANYTHING I missed. Unfortunatly, I saved before the final boss battle in the game, and now whenever I start my game back up I can't go back and collect the stuff I missed. It's also a shame that some limited stuff doesn't have a little scale telling you how many are left total in the game so you can know you collected them all, like the power cells or the bafomdads (which I couldn't get any more of after I got ten because I refused to let myself die, not that I didn't die, but I reset the game each time I did). There's not much of a sense of "lots more to do" once you beat the game, even if it did let me go back, because of this. I know there's many gates and stuff I couldn't open before with power cells behind them, and I don't think I got all the staff energy upgrades or cheat tokens (one thing, none of the "cheats" are even cheats, just bonuses, as they don't do a thing to gameplay, much like JFG's "cheats"), but it doesn't feel like there's much after doing everything you need to do to beat the game. I don't even know if there's any reason, at all, to level up Tricky aside from a new color scheme and MAYBE improved obeying of my commands.

Well, with all the negativity said, again right around the time I got to snowhorn onward, I did have myself an enjoyable journey, up until a little after the sun/moon temple bit, where it all started falling apart. It was a fun game, but I think maybe Nintendo should have held off the announcement regarding Rare's being sold until after they delayed SFA once or twice more and finished this game. I mean, that would make it be released right about now, and it wouldn't cost MS a thing because so far Rare has yet to release a single XBox game. Why? MS is allowing Rare to delay their games just as much as Nintendo did :D. Anyway, it's just a shame but it seems to me that SFA was kinda prematurly born as a result of MS's getting of the company.

Silent Hill 2 is the best game of this generation.

For another 22 days. Then Xenosaga comes along and blows your Halo-loving ass back into last Saturday :)

OB1
Nothing touches Metroid Prime. Nothing.

Dark Jaguar
Metroid Prime, Silent Hill 2, Wacraft 3...

It seems there is a slight difference of opinion amongst some influential members of TC.

However, even though I myself didn't really have much fun with Silent Hill 2, I gotta go with the guy who can ban my IP and take over my name and totally destroy my rep. SH2 it is.

OB1
I'm the right one.

Dark Jaguar
Um, when the giant killer robot comes a knocking, try not to use a simpy wimpy light saber to fend it off. It'll blow that thing out like a match.

OB1
You can't blow out lightsabers.

Dark Jaguar
Oh yeah? Let's test that theory shall we? *detonates a 50 terraton energy blast next to light saber*

Doctor: Um, exactly how did you survive this?

DJ: I don't remember. It's all a blur after that.

Doctor: I'll bet.

DJ: Anyway, You see? It went out! Oh, the handle wasn't as sturdy as I thought either... Come now, we all know that even especially strong metals can proove troublesome. All lasers are limited energy weapons. Pointing lasers can't cut squat, these lasers are JUST powerful enough to cut a thick weird space station door really slowly.

Halo: Boring unless you could get someone to play Co-Op with you.

Metroid Prime ownxorz Halo. MP is by far the best game so far this gen.

...this is a Nintendo forum, and all (or at least most) of us love Metroid Prime, what could possibly make you believe we'd disagree with you? Feel free to voice your opinions, but just be aware that you're gonna get a bunch more thrown back at you. Starting up a thread stating that a game on the X-box is the best game this generation in a Nintendo Forum, even in the Multiconsole part of it, is just asking for an argument.

Now go away before I your own spears back at you :troll:

A Black Falcon
Its not bad to say you love Halo... or to make a thread about it... that isn't automatically trolling. But when its written as he wrote it, and given how most of his posts here do seem to be troll posts, it is definitely trolling. No question... um, any real reasons you love Halo so much?

Warcraft III is the best game made anyway... anyone who disagrees doesn't understand good games. :) Unless they really hate Blizz RTSes, which I couldn't understand...

Ones favorite game isn't a objective thing... its all based on what you like in a game more, which of course is subjective. So any position that is both reasonable and well thought out and truly argued is somewhat believable... that is if its not too absurd. I like WC3 best because I love strategy games, and Blizz ones above all, and find it a brilliantly made game that has literally years of playtime in it... when I put together all the parts, I can't think of one thing that is truly wrong with the game, and know I'll be playing it regularly for years. That's more than enough reason to say its the best... I find that most games, especially console ones, don't last nearly as long. The lack of online multiplay is probably the biggest part of that... well done and popular online play adds years to a game's life, as I've found for many games over the years. Its too bad that very few console games have it... it would so greatly enhance the play experience and give people something to do to make games last past the time they beat them... thus making the games better. I know Microsoft sees this, and Sony sort of does (they do, but aren't trying very hard...), but Nintendo doesn't.

Does that make Metroid any worse? Of course not. Metroid Prime wasn't designed to have multiplayer so its lack doesn't really affect the game... basing it on other Nintendo games' lame multiplay modes (like many N64 games... DK64, Banjo-Tooie, JFG, Star Fox 64, and many more), the game's probably better without it. I just prefer strategy games to whatever genre you put Prime in.

Warcraft 1 is better. :p

How, exactly, are Sony not trying very hard?

Compared to Microsoft. Are many Sony FIRST/SECOND PARTY (or exclusive) games online? Didn't think so...

As for war1 being better than war3? I don't think so. You're just crazy... :)

You just contradicted yourself :D.

Anyhow, my favorite games of all time span many ganres and many systems.

On the PC, Jagged Alliance, Outpost 2, Civilization, The Sims, and Counterstrike. On the GameCube, Smash Bros. Melee, Metroid Prime, and Animal Crossing. On the N64 is Ocarina of Time (this better be on everyones list). On the SNES we have Final Fantasy 2 (4 for those who go by the japanese number of games), Super Mario RPG, and Super R-Type. On the NES is Mega Man 1-4, and the original Super Mario Bros.

So as you can see, my list of favorite games shows what varied tastes I have. I enjoy RPGs, Turn Based and Real Time Strategy, FPS, Platformers, life-sims, and side-scrolling games.

And I must disagree that console games don't have a lot of longevity. My GameCube and copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee recently turned one year old, and I still play Melee regularly. It was my first Cube game, and it has outlasted every other game since, all 18 of them. I've logged countless hours on it, and my best character (Ganondorf) has scored almost 6000 KOs (that's not a typo, six thousand).

So as you can see, games vary with each player, and I choose to believe I like pretty much every genre (except sports) and different gamers like different games. Your a WC3 freak, while I am a Melee freak. We're all freaks here. OB1 is a Metroid freak. Weltall is a Xenogears freak. Laser Link is a Pokemon freak. Lazyfatbum is...well...just a freak.

There are more Sony 1st/2nd party games online than there are XBox ones. What does Xbox have? Mech Assault... that's it. Well, for 1st/2nd party, anyways.

Sony also have a few upcoming 1st party games in the works. And I would bet there is a HEAP of unannounced games to feature online play.

Although, it is odd that War of the Monsters doesn't feature online play. You'd think they'd just use the technology they put in Twisted Metal: Black - Online.

As for war1 being better than war3? I don't think so. You're just crazy... :)

Well, probably. :)

EdenMaster
Come on. War of the Monsters is just a cheap answer to go up against Nintendos GOD DAMM.

OB1
War of the Monsters was in development long before DAMM was announced, and it's a better game.

BTW DJ, that Master Cheif model is comprised of less polys than the one in Halo 1. That's what I was talking about when I said clever bump-mapping.

A Black Falcon

I don't know the numbers. I just know that MS has XBox Live, and Sony makes you pay for each individual game... and doesn't have a network like XBox Live. Clearly, MS has the better of the situation... saying anything else is just being a blind PS fanboy...

SSB:M? I stopped playing that game regluarly ... well, within a couple of weeks of getting it. Since then, I have played it occasionally, but not very often... single player SSB:M got boring fast. Multiplay is good for short amounts of time every so often, but that gets boring too.

I generally find almost all console games last a while, then I either finish them or get bored of them and don't play my consoles much again until I get another new game... PC however, due to the many other things to do (and a lot more games for it) doesn't ever get old.

My favorite games... I know I've said them before, but why not again. Except for OoT, all of my top 10 are PC games... (in order) WC3, SC, OoT, TIE Fighter, Civ 2, Planescape Torment, Jedi Knight, Grim Fandango, Warcraft II, Baldur's Gate 1/2... that's 10.
N64? Some of the other best N64 games have to include Mario 64, F-Zero X, and maybe a few others... Rush 2049, Wipeout 64, Perfect Dark, I don't know...
Hmm... I don't know where Metroid Prime or Eternal Darkness go, actually. Both might belong there... they are good enough. Maybe at the last couple of positions. I don't know... too hard to decide. Anyway, those are the best Cube games.
And on GB/GBC, I'd say Link's Awakening. There are other great GB/C games (Mario Bros. Deluxe, Kirby 2, Bionic Commando Elite Forces, Wario Land, and a few others), but that's the best.

Don't quote the wrong person, ABF, it's annoying.

Dark Jaguar
Oh, he is? Wait a moment... Why are you telling me this specifically? I'm not exactly sure I said or asked anything about bump mapping...

A Black Falcon
I quoted the correct person... my response just didn't show up. I've seen that happen before... I guess I didn't put a space between the end of the quote tag and the paragraph so that paragraph vanished? Its odd... I just hit enter after the endquote and it appeared in the thread.

OB1
We were talking about that a while ago. You said something about how overrated bump-mapping is and I responding by saying how useful it is, like with Halo 2 and Doom 3. Or did someone else say that?

Laser Link
Ask this question again in 7 weeks.

OB1
What?

Dark Jaguar
Wind Waker and Xenosaga will be out then (though I think the main point of LL's statement was Wind Waker), which would mean new competition for "bestast geam evA4!"

MgL
I pre-odered Wind Waker from Amazon two days ago. Im a huge Zelda fan so yeah this could possible change my mind... Anyone pre-ordered from the internet too? Amazon says I will be getting the game in between the first 2 or 3 days of April... :( I didn't want to pay for fast shipping.

OB1
Metroid Prime is currently tied with Super Metroid as the best game ever. If Zelda can match that then I'll be in heaven, and I have confidence that it will.

Dark Jaguar
You don't put Ocarina of Time in there man? Or WC3? Or Chrono Cross or Xenogears? What's wrong with you man? :D

Private Hudson

Sony makes you pay to play each individual game? Since when?

People play SOCOM, Twisted Metal, Frequency, Madden, ATV Offroad Fury, Tony Hawks 4 etc. etc. for free.

The only games that require you to pay to play are Everquest Online Adventures, and Final Fantasy XI. And guess what, they're both MMORPG's on their own closed servers.

The PS2's online setup is exactly like the PC online setup.

This is the second time I've seen you claim that Sony makes you pay to play each individual game, and the second time I've had to correct you. If anyone is blind here, it's YOU (and Ray Charles, but he rarely posts anymore).

OB1
You also have to pay for PSO on X-Box Live.
