View Thread : That's it, I'm officially completely sick of IGN.

Dark Jaguar
They barely have anything close to news most days. I mean, have you seen the big name articles they have lately?

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/504/504985p1.html

"Classics Reborn" SOUNDS like they are about to list some remakes coming out right? No, it's just a bunch of people saying "you know what game would be really cool if they remade it in 3D?". I mean, that's not news! That's not even entertainment news! That's just stuff I do already with my friends, and I KNOW no one else would want to know or even care about that.

Then they did the same thing with the NES wish list. Honestly, THAT'S your top story? That's not a story! Reporting the wants of the REPORTERS and NOTHING ELSE is NOT news!

I know they need to make money, and to get people to pay for it they need to provide news very often, but the fact is that the game industry can be rather devoid of news for long periods of time. Reporting "non-news" like "a rumor has it that Sony will be adding a satellite service to the PSP, though Sony denies said rumors" (meaning the rumor is already disproven but they want to report it anyway), or worse, "we think it would be SO awesome if they made a new Battletoads game" (Seriously, as though you wouldn't get the same quality "news report" just by reading Scribes at Rareware.com) does NOT make it worth paying for. It just adds garbage to wade through to get to real news.

OB1
Well to be fair, the only worthy news of the past few weeks has been Paper Mario and Fire Emblem, and they reported on that.

Dark Jaguar
Yes, but honestly I think they should just not put up anything if there's no real news.

IGN insider ruined IGN , I am not gonna pay shit for a few screen shots and demos and too hear their retarded opinions.

Gamespot is atleast 45% free.

Gamespy is atleast not into that pay or else crap.

WTF! is with starwars.com? Its great that hyperspace is like a big spoiler tag , But i cant even see a interview with C3-PO actor without dishing out a ass full of cash. Its too porno to me... :screwy:

OB1
It's called being a business.

Great Rumbler
Yeah, it's kind of hard to play your employees when your business model is a website that offers free videogame news.

OB1
Yeah but it's the internet! It should be FREE!

Laser Link
Yeah but it's the internet! It should be FREE!
Ahhh, the good old days. I remember when that really did seem to be true.

alien space marine
Yahoo and google do so well and most of their stuff is free.

Alot of people left IGN and sticked with daily news fansites and the few gaming sites that dont charge anything.

I would put up with pop up junk or buy a magazine then pay 15 bucks a month just to get a fucking screenshot and streamed videos. For 7 bucks you can get a magazine and a demo disc at the grocery store.

Like you said IGN doesnt offer much.

OB1
$8 for one magazine and old news is a good deal to you?

Dark Jaguar
I think he's talking the demo disk. Even then, I could just save that money for the FULL version of the game.

I'm not saying IGN is wrong for charging. I'm saying it's moronic to pay for information you can get for free. What happened to the post I had above? This happens sometimes lately, it'll post my post and then it'll vanish a few hours later. One time my post went into the wrong thread entirely.

OB1
They don't charge you for stuff you can get anywhere else (usually), they charge you for exclusives and video reviews/previews, etc.

Ryan
I find it hard to fault this article. I'd love to see updates to some of these games... Maniac Mansion... ahhh....

Dark Jaguar
Yes, but you can think about that yourself. Do you really need some people to post "ya know what would be cool?" articles as a NEWS REPORT?

In fact, we could do it better. I think they should remake Crystalis, but not like the GBC remake that totally RUINED the challenge and the story and replaced ALL the music with stuff one of the NST guys probably wrote during their lunch break. I mean something like Sword of Mana level remake on Gameboy Advance by SNK themselves.

Ryan

Actually, it's stuff like that which makes me read IGN once in awhile. I could give a rat's ass about the news. You know which section I immediately turn to in a newspaper? The Op-Ed page, because opinions are more fun to read than sterile news.

Besides, we're not paying for that kind of stuff, so it doesn't bother me in the least.

Dark Jaguar
Hmm, I guess we just have different opinions on these things. I prefer sterile news to the opinion section. Then agian, I don't ever buy the newspaper. I get all that for free online, INCLUDING the comics, so I don't ever bother with the paper. Besides, the newspaper format is far too confusing to rummage through anyway.

Ryan
I can't read online at work. Thus, I <3 Newspapers.

Except when the Washington Post is all I have. I'd rather wipe myself with it than read it.

Dark Jaguar
Strange, do you only get interested in news at work or something?

Ryan
No, usually it's the only reading material at hand. And since I have to read something, usually the newspaper is it.

Cant pay the employees? Do you realize how much the entire IGN hub network makes off of ads? The only reason they made IGN insider is to get MORE money and the only people that join are the people who aren't old enough to HAVE credit cards yet. It's pointless and it's a bad call for any website to make people pay for FREE PRESS RELEASE INFO. *anything* of any worth can be found on any other website. IGNsider gives you shit like "hey this game was released on all systems, let's see which one looks the best! .....well they all look pretty simmilar but which one has the best controls!?!? find out next MONTH suckers!"

Bullshit Bullshit Bullshit.

OB1
Really? Wow, I didn't know you had the exact figures for ad revenues, how much their employees get paid, etc. Huh. :)

alien space marine
I would like too know.

I especially love their section on demographics.
